Someone asked me why did I decide to coach instead of just facilitating workshops like I did in the past. It really surprised me that they asked that question. Teaching one two-hour workshop will never give someone the full transformation that a complete coaching program will yield.
I’ve learned that coaching and consulting in any area of life including business development is a very fluid concept. Every day I expect an “Aha” moment and a “win.” I started off referring to myself as a consultant, billing by the hour. I later realized the best way to help people was to ensure a full transformation instead of selling breadcrumbs based on what customers thought they needed. An “aha” in that moment- what people thought they needed and what they “actually” needed, never really aligned! As a result, I designed a 10-week transformational program to help my clients move from their state of need to a state of bliss. This was supposed to be the easy part because I had mastered curriculum development as a preschool teacher! To my surprise, the process of developing the program transformed my own life. Two old wives’ tales hold true in life- 1. You are always your first client. And 2. As a coach, drinking my own medicine is essential to the process.
With that said, the first transformation was a mindset shift. I had to dispel every limiting belief I allowed myself to hold on to. I had to overcome my fears and my belief that being “shy” was just my personality and that’s how God created me. I had to press pass a scarcity mindset (helping people doesn’t pay much, but the Kingdom rewards are great). This is not found anywhere in the Bible. I had to come to an understanding that hiding and playing small is not humility. As I experienced each of these epiphanies, I realized that mindset is the power behind true success. I can give you every tool needed to build a six-figure business, but without the right mindset, none of the tools will work. What good is a power drill without electricity? Because this was so critical, I had to go back and incorporate mindset into my curriculum. I have learned that you cannot teach anything until you consult with the mindset of the student.
